Absolute pain. It was the only thing you could feel right now.
With your head pounding, skin prickling, throat burning and heart racing, you could hardly make out what the nurses and doctors were saying around you.
You did know one thing, it was frantic. You were hooked up to several machines, luckily none of them covered your face though.
A steady beep from the electrocardiograph machine rang in the room. You could almost laugh to yourself, it was just like the terrible medical dramas you and Romano used to laugh at all the time.
Lovi.
Where was he? He was here a second ago, you could have sworn. You just remember him telling you something very peculiar, reaching into his jacket, and that was it. Now you were in a hospital bed with doctors talking very loudly to one another, almost in a panic it seemed.
You guessed you would just have to wait.
~
After about an hour or two, you fell into a restless sleep and the doctors left.
Your nap didn't last very long though, for you woke up about a half hour later to find Romano gripping your hand. He looked like he was shaking.
At first you were frightened because you could barely make out who the man was, and you felt incredibly weak. Your breathing was a little rough and wasn't too strong, and the beeping noise was slowing down dangerously.
"_-______?" Romano whispered very quietly. He sounded like he was crying. "Can you hear me?"
"Lovi..." You barely managed to say, gripping his hand as best as you could.
"I just wanted you to know... They don't know exactly what's wrong with you, ______... It's just been so sudden. You went from a slight cold-like sickness to near death in a week." He choked out the word 'death'.
"Lovi..." You repeated. You remembered what he had told you in front of the park. I love you too! I want to stay! I can't die, I was healthy just a week ago! This isn't happening...
"Just, just stay-a in there ______." Romano sobbed a few times and leaned down to kiss your cheek. You felt a few tears on your eyelid and you started quivering slightly.
"I... Ti amo tro-" You took in a sharp breath as your lungs felt like they just exploded. You gritted your teeth in pain and dug your nails into his palm, your body shaking violently. The heart monitor went crazy.
"______?! ______?! SOMEONE! HELP! THERE'S-A SOMETHING WRONG!" Romano frantically screeched, not leaving your side.
With one last sob he leaned down and started kissing you several times. "La mia bella stay with me... Shhh.... Someone's coming to help..."
A beautiful white light shrouded your vision and you swore you heard singing of some sort in a distance, just one voice. It calmed you and you smiled a bit, feeling yourself slip away.
The electrocardiograph went dead.
~ * ~ Two Months Later ~ * ~
Romano sat criss-cross in front of your sole grave. It was under a shady tree in his backyard, the place you used to love to read, draw, write, or listen to music.
With teary eyes he pulled something out of his pocket and placed it on the grave.
It was a silver promise ring.
The same ring that he was going to give to you in front of the Spanish park.
